The Academic Dean’s Office sponsors a series of programs and events. In collaboration with the Alumnae Association, the Career Development Center, and the Dean of Students office; the Academic Dean’s Office sponsors class events that support students in their academic and social development while at MHC.
Students in their first year have an opportunity to participate in the following class events. The Academic Fair, Planning Ahead, and Making Connections are events in which first year students can learn about the many curriculum possibilities and the network of resources available at MHC.
Students entering their sophomore year can participate in a Sophomore Orientation event scheduled in September, and a Sophomore Retreat, scheduled to occur shortly before advising for the spring semester. Our goals are to provide sophomores with an uniquely valued experience, that allows them to be totally integrated in the MHC Community, as well as provide the resources necessary for that connection. In addition, at the Sophomore Retreat, we are deliberate in providing this opportunity for students to connect with the departments, faculty, and major fields of study.
Students in their junior year can participate in the Junior Banquet. In 2004, the Junior Class Board apporached the Academic Deans with the request for a Junior Banquet. The Junior Banquet has been a semi-formal dinner program that includes an Alumnae panel, an opportunity to connect with members of the faculty, and additional opportunities to connect with the Career Development Center.
A program for seniors that has received support from the Academic Deans Office is the Students of Color Graduation Celebration. This is a program developed by the MHC Elders, which includes faculty, staff, and administrators of color. The celebration is an opportunity for Students of Color to acknowledge the MHC faculty, staff, or administrator that has been significant to their success at Mount Holyoke College.
