Frances Harriet Williams Award
In the spring of 1981, the family of Frances Harriet Williams, a member of the Mount Holyoke Class of 1919, established an award in her honor. It was the donor’s wish that each year the Frances Harriet Williams award be presented to a junior or senior from an historically underrepresented group in American higher education. In particular, the student will be representative of the African American, Latina or Native American culture. The student will also exemplify the ideals to which Ms. Williams’ life was dedicated: the capacity to create a dream; the passion to pursue it; and the ability to soar with one’s goal, whether it is academic excellence, social justice or service to others.
The Committee would be pleased to receive nominations from you of juniors or seniors who, in your opinion, best demonstrate the qualities of academic excellence, social justice and service to others. We ask that you submit the student’s name, class and your reasons for nominating her. Because students are multidimensional, if you know of others that might also be willing to nominate her, please encourage them to do so. If you are aware of their curricular, co-curricular, and outside interests that support this nomination, please include this information also. Please know that if you nominated a student last year, that did not receive the award, you may nominate that person again.
