Connected Learning
"Purposeful engagement in the world" has been our mantra from the day we opened our doors, and that mission has never been more relevant—or needed—than it is today. Inside and outside the classroom, Mount Holyoke challenges each student to integrate her learning experience with the broader world.
Opportunities abound to achieve this aim through a variety of learning experiences, both on campus and off.

Internships Global Perspectives
Mount Holyoke boasts a diverse and highly accomplished population of international students, outstanding study abroad programs in more than 30 countries and six continents, and prestigious international visitors.
All of these programs are administered by the Center for Global Initiatives (CGI). Founded in 2004 to unite Mount Holyoke's wealth of international programs and people, the center supports Mount Holyoke's vision of education for global citizenship. Community-based Learning
Purposeful engagement can start closer to home. The Community-based Learning Program (CBL) brings together students, faculty, and community organizations to solve real problems while building students’ leadership and advocacy skills. CBL is a core program of the Weissman Center for Leadership and the Liberal Arts.
Leadership Development
Mount Holyoke believes that young leaders frequently emerge after college as a result of their abilities to think critically, and to speak and write with clarity and conviction. The Speaking, Arguing, and Writing Program (SAW) puts this belief into practice by offering speaking- and writing-intensive courses, providing access to dozens of student mentors and assistants, and sponsoring special events and workshops. SAW also is a core program of the Weissman Center.
January Term
"J-Term" is a time for trying new things, delving deeper into a familiar subject, and broadening horizons. During three weeks between semesters, students might try their hand at screenwriting, study in Senegal, or learn to pilot a tall ship. Though brief, J-Term courses make a lasting impression due to the focus and passion of students and instructors.
Internships
Gaining real-world experience while still in college can make a huge difference in almost any career. The internship programs offered by the Career Development Center and the Center for Global Initiatives let students try out a profession while making a real contribution to an organization. Recent internships include the International Labour Organization, Goldman Sachs & Co., ABC Television, the Center for Pediatric Research, Davis & Young (law firm), and the United Nations Development Programme.
