Center for the Environment and Green Partners Reception
4:00 pm -5:00 pm 
Visit the Center for the Environment and other Green Partners (Botanic Garden, Environmental Stewardship Office, Student Environmental Action Coalition, Environmental Studies Program and the Five College Energy and Recycling Programs) and learn how students can engage in environmental issues in all aspects of campus life, from academics and extracurricular student activities to the grounds and facilities.  The Center for the Environment's programs encourage interdisciplinary and cross-cultural dialogue and partnerships that recognize shared responsibility and interdependence.  ICE CREAM will be served!  Check out Center for the Environment.

Environmental Leadership Series: featuring Elizabeth Kolbert

An Informal Discussion with Author Elizabeth Kolbert
What Al Gore has done through film, political journalist, Elizabeth Kolbert, has done through the written word: catapult the wider public to a new level of understanding and action on climate change. Come join an informal discussion with Ms. Kolbert to learn about her career and her experiences in writing the acclaimed Field Notes from a Catastrophe: Man, Nature and Climate Change.  This event, co-hosted by Environmental Studies, is the first in the Center for the Environment's year-long Environmental Leadership Series.Cassani Lounge, Shattuck Hall  This series aims to educate students across the disciplinary spectrum about important environmental issues, and to create an aspirational and mentoring quality to each speaking event.

Anna Lappé, co-founder of the Small Planet Institute, will deliver an evening lecture,  in which she will illuminate the intersecting challenges posed by climate change, environmental degradation, and the globalized food system—and offer alternatives that can lead to healthier people, communities, and ecosystems

Make a career out of your concerns about climate change, ocean pollution and sustainable development. Learn how you can make a difference at Duke University's Nicholas School of the Environment and Earth Sciences. Duke’s Nicholas School is among the world’s premier graduate professional schools for the interdisciplinary study of the environment. Meet Lisa Rattray, Admissions Officer for the Nicholas School, at a presentation on Thursday, October 18, at 4:00 pm, in CDC Conference Room, to learn about graduate opportunities as well as undergraduate courses available at the Duke Marine Lab.
Light refreshments will be provided.
