Tech Mentors
Are you interested in trying something new in one of your courses next semester? We'd like to help.
The Technology Mentor Program is an initiative from the Plan for 2010 and is intended to help foster effective integration of technology into the curriculum while providing a new array of work opportunities for students. The Program pairs student mentors with a course and LITS Liaison to support related technology needs. LITS seeks to work with faculty who want to explore technology within a particular course... and student mentors who are comfortable with technology and enthusiastic to gain experience in teaching and learning (or vice versa). A mentor's specific responsibilities would depend largely on course learning objectives. Possible roles might include:
- Holding office hours for project consultation with students enrolled in the course
- Offering training workshops on specific software or equipment associated with assignments
- Brainstorming with faculty on the potential application of technologies to meet course objectives; perhaps also providing feedback on the effectiveness of a technology-based assignment
- Developing prototypes or models of a technology-based tool that will be used to foster learning
What else can a Tech Mentor do? See these examples of Tech Mentors' roles from previous semesters. Tips for integrating a mentor into your course.
Faculty interested in exploring this program further should first consult with their LITS Liaisons and then complete the brief faculty mentor application.
Students interested in applying to become technology mentors should complete the student mentor application (PDF).
