Wireless

Library, Information, and Technology Services (LITS) offers wireless internet connections to the Mount Holyoke College community and our guests.  Wireless access is available throughout the LITS complex, Kendade, Blanchard, all Residence Halls, and various administrative buildings.  If you own a laptop with wireless, you can enjoy searching the web from a comfortable chair in the library or check email from a quiet study area. If you do not own a laptop you can borrow a laptop at the LITS Circulation Desk.

Connecting to the Wireless Network

Some computers have a switch to turn off and on wireless. If you have such a switch, make sure it is on.

Most computers with wireless will search for wireless networks. If there are multiple networks, as at many locations at Mount Holyoke, you will need to select a wireless network.  If the selection box does not automatically display on your computer follow these steps for PC or a Mac.

A wireless network name is also called the SSID. The following SSIDs are available at MHC:

SSID Notes
LyonNet
  • Residence Hall network and some other locations across campus
  • Computer registration may be done using this SSID.
LyonNet-Encrypt
  • Residence Hall network and some other locations across campus.
  • Computer registration may be done using this SSID.
  • Encryption uses WPA/PSK TKIP (WPA Personal)
  • Passphrase: marylyon
MHC-Guest
  • Residence Hall network and some other locations across campus
  • Provides limited Internet access
  • This allows your guests to have limited. Internet access without having to register the computer. .

  • Should not be used for student computer registrations.
  • May be used for faculty/staff registrations for Academic/Administrative buildings.
MHC-Encrypt
  • Used in some Academic or Administrative buildings.
  • Should not be used for student computer registrations.
  • May be used for faculty/staff registrations for Academic/Administrative buildings.
  • Encryption uses WPA/PSK TKIP (WPA Personal)
  • Passphrase: marylyon

Once your computer has connected to the College network, you should be able to get to Mount Holyoke sites (Webmail, ISIS). In order to connect to off-campus sites you will need to register your computer.

Refer to the wireless map to find wireless-accessible areas on campus.  Printed maps are available throughout the LITS complex for your convenience, near the main entryways and at the Informationcommons.
