Why Apply?

The first thing you should know when considering application to fellowships and scholarships is that there is more value to applying than winning alone. In order to complete an application you will need to:

  • identify what it is you want to do and why (clarity).
  • evaluate what you have already done and how these experiences and accomplishments have prepared you for your next goal (competence).
  • put all the pieces together to produce a competitive application package (connection).

This is an opportunity to ask yourself some tough questions and refine your ability to articulate who you are and what you stand for. This alone can be incredibly rewarding, even if you are not selected as the recipient of an award. These skills will make it easier the next time you choose to fill out an application for another award or graduate school, develop your resume, or interview for a job.

And of course, there is the real possibility that you will win! Learn about past award winners...
