Residence Halls

Engagement, peer mentorship, and self governance are the foundations of our residential program.  To this end, each residence hall houses members of all four classes with the exception of  Pearsons Annex and Dickinson House. Pearsons Annex houses Frances Perkins Scholars. Dickinson houses sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Approximately one-fourth of the rooms in each residence hall are for entering students. The result is an interesting blend of experience within each residence hall.

We offer housing in many configurations to meet the developing needs of our students. We provide apartment and suite style options, in addition to traditional singles, doubles triples, and quads. First-year students should anticipate living in a traditional space with one, two or three roommates. Returning Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors will select their room type in the annual Housing Lottery.

Each residence hall is unique in design and character.  Each hall features a formal living room and other common space with a piano and a grandfather clock. The halls also have handsomely furnished sitting rooms, breakfast area, computer room, and basement laundry facility. Several halls have student kitchens for larger scale cooking.

Student rooms vary in size and shape varies across campus. Each room is furnished with standard twin size bed (36"x72"), bookcase, desk and desk chairs, mirror, and dresser. Each room has a telephone and computer jack for each student.

Laundry
Each residence hall has basement laundry facilities with washers and dryers. The washers and dryers are on the One Card system. In order to use the washers and dryers you will need to open an MHC Xpress account with Auxilary Services located at Central Services, 413-538-3111.

Quiet Floors
The third floors of both Abbey and North Mandelle have been designated as quiet floors. Students who live on these floors are expected to adhere to quiet and courtesy hour policies agreed upon by all floor members.

Single-sex Bathrooms
At least one bathroom in each hall is for women only. These facilities are usually on a central floor or in another convenient location.
