Mentor Responsibilities
The Weissman Center for Leadership and Liberal Arts will screen all Take the Lead mentor applicants. We are looking for students who have leadership experience and students interested in and committed to developing their own leadership capabilities and the capabilities of others. Successful applicants must demonstrate their desire to excel as mentors through dedication, passion, responsibility, open-mindedness, and the motivation and ability to communicate ideas both effectively and persuasively. The responsibilities of a Take the Lead mentor are:
- Attend the Take the Lead program and host one high school student participating in the conference during the weekend of September 27, 2007 - September 30, 2007.
- Attend a leadership mentor training session September 17, 2007, 5p.m. to 9 p.m., in the New York Room.
- Commit to regular email or phone correspondence with her mentee for approximately six months following Take the Lead. (The goal of this communication is to provide both concrete advice and emotional support to enable the participant to fulfill her action project to the best of her ability.)
- Submit an application and references by March 16, 2007.
