Content Management System (CMS)
What is CMS? Content Management System is the HTML editor that the College is using to create and maintain Web site; RedDot is the name of the vendor.
When can our department begin to use CMS and get trained? All official College Web sites will migrate (details below) into CMS based on a schedule established by the Web Strategy Team. Departments will be contacted to schedule CMS migration and training. Meanwhile, all offices and departments that have not migratd into CMS should continue to maintain and update their Web site using Dreamweaver. Online instructions on how to use Dreamweaver will remain available until the migration process is complete.
Migration When we talk about migration, we are referring to the process of moving content from your old site to CMS and the latest version of the College Web design. Migration takes an average of 2-3 weeks, with an additional week for your department to review the site and for final changes to occur. We will involve your departmenet with this process before we begin your migration. Here is an overview of the migration process:
- A representative from the Web Strategy Team will meet with your department to review your site navigation/architecture and the Web page layout option(s) available for your department.
- We will work with you to establish a timeline for your project and an estimated launch date.
- Based on the initial meeting, we (your department or one of us) will create an architecture manuscript with appropriate notes for the person who will migrate your site.
- The Web Team will set up your site in CMS.
- Migration begins; we will notify you when we begin your site migration.
- During migration, it is important that you do not make changes on your site, as the student will be copying content from your live site. Please notify us if you have essential content updates during the migration.
- You will burn a CD of your live Web site.
- When the site is complete, we will review your new site with you and then make a list of changes that are needed.
- After the changes are complete, we will ask for you to offically sign-off on the new site.
- The Office of Communications will offically sign-off on the new site.
- The site will launch within a week of sign-off.
- Your old Web site will be removed; the home page will be set to automatically redirect visitors to your new homepage.
